The Impact of Taking Action: Lessons from Oyinkansola Abdul’s Journey

The Impact of Taking Actions

In celebration of Women's History Month and International Women’s Day, we are spotlighting Oyinkansola Abdul, a seasoned legal and compliance expert immensely contributing to the regulatory framework at Termii. As Head of Legal and Compliance, she ensures the company stays ahead of evolving regulations while embedding a strong culture of integrity. Her expertise in governance, risk management, and compliance has been instrumental in guiding Termii’s strategic approach to industry regulations and ethical business practices.

Describing her role at Termii, Oyinkansola explained that it is multifaceted, involving the oversight of policies, contracts, and regulatory frameworks that safeguard the company’s operations. She stated, “I collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance while maintaining the highest standards of corporate integrity.”

With the regulatory environment constantly changing, her proactive approach enables Termii to remain compliant, mitigate risks, and stay positioned for sustainable growth.

To Oyinkansola, accelerating action entails a sense of urgency in taking significant steps toward achieving a goal or overcoming obstacles. In the context of IWD and women’s rights, accelerated action means taking impactful steps toward achieving gender equality either through policy reform, workplace inclusion, advocacy, or empowerment. “We all have a part to play in driving momentum towards achieving a future where women can thrive equally. Challenges women face are not just for conversation but the need to take decisive steps to break the barriers that prevent women from achieving their full potential,” she explained.

She further stated that in her role, this means refining legal processes, staying ahead of industry updates, and ensuring Termii remains compliant while promoting business agility.

Reflecting on a bold decision that has advanced her career, Oyinkansola shared that enrolling in a Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) program with the International Compliance Association (ICA) was a significant turning point. “That decision deepened my expertise and gave me a strategic lens to better understand complex regulations,” she stated.

She explained that the program not only broadened her skill set but also positioned her for leadership in legal and compliance management.

Speaking on overcoming obstacles and biases in her career, Oyinkansola shared that she approaches challenges with a growth-orientated mindset. “I’ve learnt to reframe obstacles as opportunities to learn, adapt, and strengthen my resilience,” she stated.

She also highlighted the importance of mentorship and self-advocacy. “I seek guidance from strong mentors, continuously upskill, and ensure my contributions are acknowledged,” she explained. She added, “I never downplay my achievements—owning my voice and expertise has been essential in advancing my career.”

For women looking to advance in their careers, Oyinkansola emphasised the power of self-advocacy. “No one can advocate for your ambition better than you,” she stated. “Be intentional about your growth, refine your skills, and pursue your career goals with confidence.”

She encouraged women to take ownership of their professional journeys, be open to change, and embrace opportunities that challenge them to grow.

Beyond her personal achievements, Oyinkansola is passionate about paving the way for other women. She stated, “I prioritise mentorship, guidance, and creating an inclusive space where women can thrive.” She actively advocates for women by recommending them for leadership roles and key opportunities.

Her work at Termii not only strengthens the company’s compliance framework but also sets a precedent for more women to take charge of their careers with confidence and purpose.
